Mark National Trails Day in Connemara and ‘Bofin and put on your boots, says O Cuiv

The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív is urging Galway people to put on their hiking boots, runners or wellies this Sunday, and take part in one of the many free events organised for National Trails Day 2009.

A wide variety of events are planned all over the country, ranging from family-oriented walks, mountain bike trails and even water trails for canoeists and kayakers. This year’s National Trails Day has been expanded from 70 events last year to 100 this year.

Minister Ó Cuív will be taking part in three events in Conamara this year including the opening of the beginners’ mountain bike ride at the Derroura mountain bike trail, 8km west of Oughterard on the Clifden Road (N59 ) at 12noon.

This Sunday to mark National Trails Day — a celebration of Ireland’s wonderful variety of trails, you have a chance to enjoy and experience Inishbofin in a 6km guided loop walk of the west end of this stunning scenic Island.The ferry leaves Cleggan (near Clifden ) at 11.30am and walkers will be met off the boat.

Walk starts 12.30pm from Community centre and will last two-three hours,with the return ferry at 4pm. Walkers are asked to bring raingear,lunch/snacks and drinks. Details for this walk are also available from Murray Grant at [email protected] 09545895.
