Ballinasloe fair queen to be crowned

The Carlton Shearwater Hotel Queen of the Ballinasloe Fair will be crowned tomorrow night in the Carlton Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe.

In keeping with tradition, the annual event to select the fair's queen marks the countdown to the age old festival in the east Galway town. The Queen of the Fair reigns for the year and participates in various events in the town during the nine day fair and festival celebration including the official opening of the fair on Sunday October 4.

Compered by Galway Bay FM's Ollie Turner, tomorrow evening promises glamour and entertainment as 13 young ladies compete to win the coveted Queen of the Fair tiara.

The 2009 Queen of the Fair receives a prize package including a cash prize from Ballinasloe October Fair committee, a weekend for two in any Carlton Hotel nationwide, beauty and pamper vouchers from Ballinasloe's retailers, and direct entry to the 2010 finals of the Galway Rose competition in March 2010.

Queen of the Fair 2008, Aoife Doherty, from Harbour Rd, Ballinasloe who represented Ballinasloe Camogie Club last year said: "I really enjoyed the opportunity of being Queen of the Fair, meeting the various dignitaries, as well as the many visitors and locals during the nine day festival. It was an honour to hold the title for the year and I want to wish all the girls the best of luck tomorrow night.”
