New child and adolescent counselling service

A new and innovative counselling service is being launched in Galway this month.

Two American-trained mental health professionals have teamed up to provide individual and group counselling to young people and their families. Their first initiative is a counselling group for children and teens dealing with the effects of separation and divorce within their families. This group begins on October 7 and will meet once a week for 10 weeks. Space is limited so early booking is advised.

Traci Uemura and Christina McDermott were both trained as counsellors in the United States. Uemura is a California state-licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, California, while McDermott is a trained Counsellor with a Masters Degree in Counselling from the University of Missouri St Louis.

Both Uemura and McDermott specialise in the treatment of children, adolescents and their families. They have significant experience dealing with a wide range of issues such as depression, anxiety, grief and loss, substance abuse, eating disorders, parenting concerns and school-related issues in young people. Their office is located in the Sirius Centre, North Point, Tuam Road. For individual counselling or to participate in the group contact Christina at 086 790 3481 and Traci at 086 893 8634.
