Acclaimed Irish author to read in Clifden

JOHN BOYNE, the author of the international best-seller The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas, will read at the 32nd Clifden Community Arts Festival.

John Boyne, along with Claire Kilroy, will read in the Station House Theatre, Clifden on Sunday September 20 at 8pm.

Born in Dublin in 1971, John studied English Literature at Trinity College, Dublin, and creative writing at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, where he was awarded the Curtis Brown prize.

His early writing consisted mostly of short stories and his first story, The Entertainments Jar, was shortlisted for the Hennessy Literary Award in Ireland.

However it was with the publication of The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas that John received wider critical and public attention and success. The novel won two Irish Book Awards and the Bisto Book of the Year, as well as a host of international awards.

It spent more than 80 weeks at number one on the best seller lists in Ireland, topped the New York Times Bestseller List, and was the bestselling book in Spain in both 2007 and 2008. Worldwide, it has sold more than five million copies and was the sixth highest selling novel of 2008. The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas was also made into an award-winning Miramax film.

John’s most recent novels are Mutiny On The Bounty and The House Of Special Purpose. He is working on his eighth novel.
