‘Vote of confidence’ for Galway as HID Global expands

HID Global has announced it is consolidating its electronic passport, or government passport inlay, production into one manufacturing campus at HIG Global Ireland Teoranta, formerly Aontec Teo, in Indreabhán.

By the end of 2009, the company anticipates the majority of products related to its e-passport and e-national ID business will be produced in its Connemara plant.

HID Global produces technology-based identity and access management and identification solutions.

“The decision to consolidate our manufacturing capability in Galway represents our ongoing commitment to this market and is a testament to the excellent track record of our production team in Ireland.”

The consolidation is the starting point for additional expansion of the Galway campus. This expansion will include increased production capacity, and the ability to support manufacturing of additional government-related technologies, as well as the addition of associated support functions.

The expanded production capability at HID Global Ireland Teoranta will be supported by the company's e-document engineering teams, which will continue to provide new development and support for existing government customers while meeting the needs and requirements of new clients.

The CEO of Údarás na Gaeltachta, Pádraig Ó hAolain, welcomed the decision by HID Global to consolidate its business and expand its Galway operation.

“We are very pleased to be able to facilitate HID Global’s expansion plans in Galway,” he said. “The decision taken by the company shows a great vote of confidence in the Galway operation, the local workforce and in the Connemara region in general as a prime location for such a high-tech industry.”
