The Comedy Of Errors at the Black Box

SLAPSTICK COMEDY, high farce, mistaken identity, and a bit of magic are all in store when Shakespeare’s The Comedy Of Errors is performed in the Black Box Theatre on Wednesday August 19.

Written in the early 1590s, The Comedy Of Errors is one of The Bard’s earliest plays. It tells the story of two sets of identical twins, both called Antipholus and Dromio, who were separated at birth.

When all four come together in Ephesus, and are mistaken for each other, all sorts of madcap antics ensue. Not only that, but there is a war going on between Ephesus and Syracuse, which only further adds to the confusion and mistaken identity.

The play will be staged by EXIT Productions in association with the Get Out Your Bard players. The performance will be a fusion of physical theatre, stage magic and slapstick comedy, played by an ensemble Galway-based cast.

The Comedy Of Errors will feature Paul Lynch (Antipholus of Ephesus and Syracuse ), Patrick McEneaney (Dromio of Ephesus and Syracuse ), Gerry Ferguson (Aegeon, the Antipholii’s father ), Rose Sweeney (Adriana ), as well as Eoghan Burke, Fergal Walshe, Margaret Kilcoyne, and Joan Gildea.

The show starts at 8pm. Tickets are €12/15 from the Town Hall Theatre on 091 - 569777.
