Colga convincing winners in Irish Cup quarter-final

Colga 3 Malahide 0

Colga girls’ u-14 team ran out convincing winners in the end of the quarter-finals match of the Irish Cup played in Mervue.

There was a very strong breeze but Colga decided to play against the breeze after winning the toss. Right from the start Colga took control of the game and were very unlucky to go in at half time nil all. Anna Lane twice and Rachel Bannon once hit the post, and some very good saves from the Malahide goalkeeper kept Malahide in the game. Colga’s midfield were running the show, with Lisa Casserly and Keara Cormican in commanding form.

In the second half Colga started to really press forward and were rewarded with a fine goal from Keara Cormican. It was followed soon after with another good goal from Leah Philips. Again Colga kept up their midfield dominance and were rewarded with another good goal and their third from Alana Moran. This was a great team performance and it is a great credit to the players themselves and also the back up team of David Morrissey, Fiona Linnane, and Teresa Corcoran.

Colga now have a home draw in the semi-finals where they await the winners of St Joseph’s v Tralee.
