Two men plead guilty to bookies’ robbery

Two men in their 20s have pleaded guilty to the robbery of more than €1,700 at number of bookies’ offices earlier this year.

The arraignment of Kenneth Bowden and Graham Coughlan took place at the Galway Circuit Criminal Court last Tuesday.

Twenty-seven-year-old Bowden, with an address at Rathnafishogue, Hacketstown, Carlow, pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery from a person, namely €1,700 at Su2 Sports Bookmakers, Main Street, Craughwell, on January 31, 2009, and €200 at Pyramid Bookmakers, Summerfield, Claregalway, on February 2, 2009.

His co-accused, 22-year-old Coughlan with an address at Tang, Ballymahon, Westmeath, also pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery from a person, namely €30 at Oran Sports Bookmakers, Main Street, Oranmore, and €1,700 at Su2 Sports Bookmakers, Main Street, Craughwell, both on Janaury 31, 2009.

Defence counsel for both defendants applied for a probation report to be prepared and the case was adjourned to November 18, 2009.
