In a further development of Rent the Runway’s partnership with Teen-Turn, Rent the Runway in Galway was selected to host the recent Teen-Turn STEM Inside Out workshop.
Marking a significant milestone in the event's history, Rent the Runway was the first company outside of Dublin to be selected to host the event.
The four-day workshop welcomed secondary school students from Galway and Mayo to explore the intersection of fashion and technology and offered aspiring tech enthusiasts a hands-on introduction to web development, coding, and the technology driving the online fashion industry. Participants, guided by Rent the Runway engineers, created their own functional e-commerce websites inspired by the company's innovative approach to fashion retail.
Guided by Rent the Runway engineers, students learned to build, customise, and launch stylish and user-friendly websites. Working in teams, they designed websites, populated product listings, and simulated shopping experiences, gaining practical insights into the workings of online stores.
A highlight of the program was a special session with a Rent the Runway iOS engineer, who provided a behind-the-scenes look at app design and development. Students explored how mobile technology complements e-commerce platforms to enhance the overall user experience.
Speaking about the event, Ronan Conlon, VP Engineering and Site Lead at Rent the Runway said: “It was an absolute privilege to host the Teen-Turn STEM Inside Out workshop and to welcome such enthusiastic and talented students to our offices in the Claddagh. Events like this one showcase the importance of inspiring the next generation of innovators. We are thrilled to play a role in fostering these opportunities in the west of Ireland.”
