Race ball gets green light

The Galway Race Ball committee has confirmed that this year’s ball will go ahead. This is the ninth year of the event which has raised in excess of €500,000 for Irish charities. The event is one of the highlights of the Galway Race week calendar and is the place to be seen for the countrys fashionistas.

The ball hosted by Grainne Seoige is in aid of charities including Galway Simon, Western Alzheimer’s and Life Pregnancy Care. Some 650 guests are expected to attend, and music on the night will be supplied by Paddy Cole.

One of the highlights of the night will be the best dressed lady competition sponsored by Image magazine.

Another important feature of the night is the announcement of the Race Ball personality of 2009. This trophy sponsored by Galway Crystal recognises excellence in the field and is a central feature of the night. Recent recipients include legendary racing jockey Mick Kinnane, Galway Racecourse manager John Moloney, and leading female national jump jockey Nina Carberry, one of only two female jockeys to ever win at Cheltenham.
