Fíbín sa Taibhdhearc to host Major European Theatre Project

Fíbín sa Taibhdhearc will host ph?n?, the first ever major international collaboration between theatres working for minority languages.

The Irish language theatre company, Fíbín, now in residence in An Taibhdhearc, have been participating in the ph?n? project since the beginning. Members of the team have attended meetups all over Europe over the last few months, and now it's Galway’s turn to host the next gathering on Thursday March 2.

Ph?n? allows artists, writers, actors and directors to share ways of working and learn from each other. The hope is that this will lead to the creation and performance of new theatre productions in minority languages. The project is making an active contribution to the vitalisation of endangered minority languages.

Fíbín’s artistic director, Philip Doherty, says: "Fibin sa Taibhdhearc are honoured to be part of this wonderful project. It’s an unprecedented venture for Fíbín Teo and An Taibhdhearc, the National Irish language Theatre, to host theatres from minority languages across Europe. It is an exciting venture, creating opportunities for artists working in minority languages to present their work on an international stage."

The theatres taking part in the project alongside Fíbín Teo (Ireland ), are Tryater (the Netherlands/Frisian ), Deutsch-Sorbisches Volkstheater Bautzen (Germany/Sorbian ), Teatrul Evreiesc de Stat (Romania/Yiddisch ), Stadttheater Bruneck (Italy/Ladin ), Teatr Piba (France/Breton ), Centro Dramático Galego (Spain/Galician ) Kven National Theatre (Norway/Kven ). In addition to the theatres taking part in the project, the University of Leipzig is involved in the translations and Hanze University of Applied Sciences for the evaluation.
