Lyons welcomes improvement works on Shangort Road footpaths

Galway City West and Knocknacarra councillor Donal Lyons this week welcomed Galway City Council improvement works to footpaths now underway on the Shangort Road.

He said that he had received a number of representations from residents who had expressed concerns regarding subsidence of the footpath along the Shangort Road. Part of the footpath adjacent to Rusheen Woods entrance was very badly uneven which elderly found it difficult to walk on.

“During the adoption of Galway City Council 2023 Budget, I was instrumental in requesting that an additional allocation of funding would be included in the budget book for the continuation of works on footpaths in the greater Knocknacarra area.

“The additional allocation of funding has this week seen the work commence on the repair and replacement of parts of the footpath on the Shangort Road,” he said, adding that he wanted to thank the elected members of the council for including an additional funding allocation in the budget to get this work underway “Thanks also to the officials at Galway City Council Roads Department for their help in addressing my representations and carrying out the work,” he concluded.
