Leisureland legacy of swimming marked with stunning mural

Since the Leisureland pool opened in the 1970s, thousands of local people, through many generations, have learned to swim at the facility.

To recognise the importance of learning to swim, Leisureland worked with local artist Ronan Connor and Creative Ireland to create a new mural. Ronan who himself learned to swim at Leisureland, designed his mural to reflect the importance of swimming in both Salthill and Leisureland.

Cllr Donal Lyons, Chairperson of Salthill Fáilte CLG would encourage everyone to sign up for Swimming Lessons at Leisureland.

He said that ‘learning to swim is a skill that lasts a lifetime and once you take those steps, you will have found a new sport, friends, and a great social outlet to help you relax’.

He would like to note a special word of thanks to the Board, Galway City Council Staff, Ian Brennan (Facilities Manager ) and all the wonderful staff, whose professionalism and dedication make this such a great facility
