Epic journey comes to an end

After almost 90 days at sea, one of the world’s foremost extreme adventurer Galway man Damian Bowne will complete his epic solo row crossing the North Atlantic from New York to Galway.

Damian, ex Connacht Rugby player, set off with his rowing partner Athenry man and ex Monivea/Galwegians RFC player Fergus Farrell. Their campaign entitled Project Empower set off from New York on June 13th. Unfortunately, after 14 days Fergus was forced to retire for medical reasons.

Damian has rowed 2,900 nautical miles with just over 400 nautical miles remaining. He’s currently battling the toughest of times with a ferocious easterly wind constantly pushing him off-course.

His team predict that all going well, Galway hopes to provide a hero’s welcome within the next ten days as he approaches from the Aran Islands into Galway Docks.

Damian has undertaken this incredible challenge to raise funds for four charities: Ability West, MADRA Dog Rescue, Galway Simon and NRH Foundation.

Golf AM-AM for Haitian Orphanage

A golf fundraising AM-AM will be held at Mountbellew golf club from Monday Sept 19 to Friday September 24 (087 9695924 / 090 9679259 ) in aid of ‘Our Little Brothers and Sisters Orphanage’ Haiti. Entry for a team of four costs €80.

Haiti has seldom been at ease and has a population of over 11 million, a country not much bigger than Munster where more are unemployed than employed and where children are left parentless at a young age, neglected and sometimes abandoned with the Orphanage coming to their rescue.

Here care, safety, nutrition and education are provided thanks to people’s generosity.

Your support is greatly appreciated.
