Ultimately a compelling SSE Airtricity League first division contest concluded in a disappointing draw for Galway United.

Further evidence of Wexford FC's admirable progression under Ian Ryan's stewardship was available, but with Cork City cruising to victory over Athlone Town this was a setback for United.

Rob Manley steered John Caulfield's charges ahead in the 14th minute of an action packed opening period.

Wexford levelled courtesy of former United player Conor Barry, who swept home a sweet goal following impressive approach work by Luka Lovic and Conor Crowley.

Then Wexford hit the front in the 23rd minute as Crowley's corner took a wicked deflection before crossing the line.

Stephen Walsh and Bastien Hery had opportunities for United before the break, but parity was eventually restored after the restart.

Again it was all about Walsh's honesty and determination as United equalised in the 62nd minute. Walsh blocked down Wexford goalkeeper Alex Moody's clearance before supplying an opportunistic finish.

From then until the end, with the stakes piled high, United had opportunities with Walsh, Manley, and substitute Mikie Rowe going close.
