Charlie Byrne’s turns twenty this weekend

Charlie Byrne’s bookshop is celebrating 20 years in business this weekend.

The shop was originally started by Mr Byrne in June 1989 at a weekend market in Munster Avenue.

Later that year he opened a small shop on Dominick street. The shop grew and developed over the years and now occupies 3,000 square feet of the Cornstore Mall on Middle Street. The shop is packed with more than 50,000 second-hand, new, bargain, and antiquarian books.

The city centre bookshop has become a mecca for booklovers from Galway, Ireland, and abroad. It has a reputation for having a laid-back, friendly atmosphere with an excellent stock of interesting, unusual and hard to find books, and at reasonable prices.

To celebrate 20 years in business Charlie Byrne’s is having a one-off three for two sale on all books, both new and second hand. The sale will start this Saturday June 6 and run until Sunday June 14.
