This was a disapponting evening for Galway United as Cork City moved to the top of the SSE Airtricity League first division.

Ultimately Matt Healy's sweet opening goal divided the teams in front of a packed out Eamonn Deacy Park.

Colin Healy's outfit managed the game well and were able to deal with Ruairi Keating's 67th minute red card.

Late on John Caulfield made a string of substitutions, but United couldn't grab a leveller against the visitors.

Jonas Hakkinen, Ally Gilchrist, and Josh Honohan were effective defensively for City, who were solid throughout.

Initially Keating forced Conor Kearns to make a ninth minute save before Healy's gorgeous goal.

The promising City midfielder steered the visitors' ahead with a crisp strike.

Cian Murphy was subsequently unfortunate not to score, but his shot from an acute angle struck a post.

A combination of David Harrington and Josh Honohan prevented a 27th minute Wilson Waweru effort crossing the line.

After the restart - despite the industry and drive of United skipper Conor McCormack - City did enough to claim a crucial away victory in the west.
