One of the great stories in local football is that Galway Bohemians are becoming relevant again.

The junior side are beginning to stir, while the underage development is a source of pride and optimism.

Anthony Trill has been heavily involved, managing an U14 team, who are competing for promotion in an exciting Division Two campaign.

That, though, represents only part of the tale because Bohs are striving to establish themselves once more.

"Things are going well," Trill says. "We started it up about seven years ago, my brother came to me and they wanted to start an underage academy.

"They wanted to push it on, they felt there was a space for it in Galway."

Playing numbers are increasing which brings its own challenges too. "When we started off we had 15 children, they ranged from six years of age to 10 years of age," Trill explains. "So for the first year or so we were playing a lot of friendlies, playing older teams, getting the lads used to it.

"We have grown year on year, we are up to more than 250 now heading towards 300. It is really good, that is testament to the work that everyone in the club is carrying out."

During the summer months Xavi Vazquez will work as coaching co-ordinator to implement Bohs' player and coach development plan.

"Xavi is a good friend of mine, I know him through football and outside of football, he is a remarkable guy."

Trill believes that further progress will be made by Bohs in the coming weeks, months, and years.

"What we are really striving to get to is that we have competitive teams in all of the age groups," Trill replies. "We are getting there, but it is very important to us that while we want to be competitive, we want to ensure that every child that comes to the club feels that they are part of this club.

"For me the whole pinnacle would be to have a team at every age group, for them to be competitive, and for the children to be happy. That is the most important thing: that they are happy and proud to say they are a Galway Bohemian."
