O’Flaherty welcomes commencement of Ballyloughane field clean-up

Councillor Terry O’Flaherty has welcomed the start of work on cleaning up a field at Ballyloughane following the development of a car park on the adjoining site.

Funding was secured in the 2022 Galway City Council budget for the reinstatement of the field and to bring it back to its previous condition.

“When the works were carried out on the development of the car park, I understood that the mounds of soil which had been deposited on the next field were only supposed to be left there on a temporary basis,” Cllr O’Flaherty says.

“The soil was to be used for landscaping in some of our council estates that were under construction at that time.

“A number of residents have been making representations to me requesting that the city council remove these big mounds, which are filled with weeds and briars. It’s an unsightly mess.

“When the city council purchased this field a number of years ago cows were grazing there at that time.

“I know that the residents in the area will be very pleased to see the works finally being carried out and the field restored to its rightful state, no longer an eyesore.”
