Jack Carty call up at last

Connacht’s Jack Carty has received a long awaited call up to the Irish Rugby squad this week after Johnny Sexton was forced to pull out with knee injury following Ireland’s sublime win over New Zealand at the weekend.

Carty’s fans have welcomed the Irish manager’s decision, questioning only why it was not earlier. However, Ireland coach Andy Farrell explained his reasoning for selecting Joey Carberry and Harry Byrne ahead of Carty as “ an opportunity for us to find out about people as well in this window”.

The decision did not go down well with fans of Carty, who has been the in-form outhalf this season. Whether he comes in ahead of Joe Carberry or Byrne is what rugby fans are now debating.

Also involved have been hooker Dave Heffernan and wing Mack Hansen, alongside regular players Finlay Bealham and Bundee Aki. Given Connacht’s recent performances, particularly over fellow provinces, it it nothing more than Connacht players deserve.
