Galway artist to join Bankey and Damien Hirst at major art fair

Jin Yong to exhibit at Arts Source in the RDS from November 12 to 14

Galway-based artist, Jin Yong, known for his vivid, large scale wildlife paintings, will be in the national spotlight as Ireland’s premier art fair returns to the RDS from November 12 to 14.

Yong, who lives in Galway city, will join 200 other Irish and international artists, alongside a collection of contemporary art worth €1.3 million at Art Source, which more than 15,000 people are expected to attend.

Yong has been working on two new collections during lockdown to bring to the exhibition. His latest work features big lions and tigers and he is concerned to raise awareness of endangered species.

“The show is such an important element of my success as an artist,” he said. “In 2016, I rented the smallest space available, but it was so successful that the following year I took out two spaces, and I’ll be doing the same this year – possibly even a third.”

.

After living in Dublin for 13 years, he moved to Galway six and a half years ago. “I love it here, it keeps me calm and it’s a great city for art,” he said. “It gives me that space where I can relax and paint.”

Art Source will feature a centrepiece collection worth €1.3 million, and feature Andy Warhol’s 1975 portrait of Mick Jagger, signed by both the artist and the singer, valued at €125,000; as well as works by Banksy, Damien Hirst, Joan Miro, Roy Lichtenstein, Salvador Dali, Robert Indiana, Keith Haring, Peter Monaghan, and Stephen Forbes.
