Welcome to Coláiste Muire Máthair

Newly amalgamated Catholic coeducational voluntary secondary school on St Mary’s Road. The school is under the joint trusteeship of CEIST and the Diocese of Galway, Kilmacduagh, and Kilfenora. It opened its doors this autumn to 175 first years and they were joined two days later by 519 students from the former St Mary’s College and Our Lady’s College, Galway.

The school is very much in a period of transition. There is a dedicated and committed team in Coláiste Muire Máthair with senior management working side by side, shoulder to shoulder with an excellent teaching staff, wonderful SNAs, and superb secretaries and caretakers. As a team they have strived to facilitate this amalgamation, they are solution focussed and the team aim to build a school where all students will experience care and kindness, where they will feel safe and listened to, and where they will benefit from every opportunity to develop a love for learning.

The school has a very diverse student population and wishes to create a community who embrace each other’s cultures and acknowledge and accept differences. This shared vision reflects the school's core ethical values such as respect, trust, honesty, and fairness. The school encourages students to develop a healthy self-image, to take on the responsibility of being the best they can be, and to form positive relationships within the new school community.

The school team thanks the board of management, trustees, and the Department of Education which have enabled the completion of the first phase of the building project providing the school with a new art room, technology room, music room, and suite of toilets. Phase two will commence shortly and will further enhance the facilities on this 25-acre site by providing a new home economics room, staff room, additional toilets, and classrooms.
