Galway University Hospitals seek volunteers for Patient Council

Galway University Hospitals (GUH ) is seeking volunteers for its patient council. The vacancies have arisen because some members on the current council are nearing the end of their term.

The aim of the organisation is to work with GUH (University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park Hospital ) to identify current and future opportunities to improve the care experience for patients, families, and caregivers when using both hospitals’ services.

The council serves in an advisory capacity, making recommendations aimed at “embedding the patient voice throughout the organisation and for that voice to be incorporated in organisational activities”.

Chris Kane, the general manager of Galway University Hospitals said they are “very grateful” for the contribution and commitment of the previous patient council.

She said GUH would particularly like to hear from people who have had direct contact with the hospitals as patients or relatives and would like to contribute to improving the local health service and patient experiences.

“Between seven and 10 people participate in the council and work with the hospital management team. The council meet bi-monthly with a minimum of six meetings per calendar year.”

Anyone interested in volunteering for the patient council or learning more about the role, should telephone (091 ) 542517 or email [email protected]
