Underage action continues

Four Galway United and two Galway WFC teams are in action this weekend

It proved to be a disappointing weekend for Galway United's underage teams in national competition.

Xavi Vazquez's U14s suffered a first league loss of the campaign away to Cobh Ramblers, who prevailed 3-0. United will be eager to summon an instant respond on Saturday when hosting Shamrock Rovers at East United (1pm ).

Despite a plucky performance Anthony O'Neill's U15s exited the cup following a 2-1 defeat against Cork City. Jack Weesjes scored for United, but Cork advanced to the penultimate round. Next for United is a league tussle away to Rovers at Roadstone on Sunday afternoon (3pm ).

Martin Devlin's U17s were involved in a lively 2-2 draw with Cork City. David Tarmey, who has netted five goals in four Shield matches, and the promising Mikey McCullagh scored for United, who play Limerick FC at Hogan Park on Saturday (2pm ).

Matthew Murray struck for Brendan O'Connor's U19s, who were beaten 2-1 by Cork, in Maree. A trip to the Showgrounds on Sunday beckons for United (2pm ).

Galway WFC U17s and U19s both drew 0-0 with Peamount United at the weekend.

With the vast majority of the U17 squad eligible again next season it was a satisfactory display at Dangan. Phil Trill's side are away to Wexford Youths on Saturday at Ferrycarrig Park (2pm ).

On Sunday the U19s, still very much in the hunt for silverware, entertain Cork City at Dangan (2pm ).
