Appeal for witnesses to fatal road collision

Gardaí in Galway are investigating a fatal road traffic collision involving a car and a motor cyclist that occurred at approximately 10.10am on Sunday September 12 at the junction of the Old Dublin Road and Renmore Park.

Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses to the collision to come forward. Gardaí are further appealing to any road users who were travelling along the Old Dublin Road shortly after 10am on Sunday morning and may have camera and/or dash-cam footage to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

Burglary at city hostel

Gardai are investigating a burglary at a city centre hostel. On Friday September 9 between 7.30pm and 9pm a room at a hostel on Eglinton Street was broken into.

During the course of the burglary a black Dell laptop along with a black rucksack, some Microsoft X-box equipment, personal documentation and a sum of cash was taken.

Some of the items were found a short time later in the Eyre Square area. Gardaí are asking anyone who may have been in the Eglinton Street/Eyre Square area on Friday evening between 7.30pm and 9pm and may have any information about this burglary or anyone who may have been offered any of the stolen items for sale is asked to contact Galway Garda Station on 091-538000.

Trailer stolen in Belclare

Sometime between 2am and 6am on Friday September 10 a 10ft by 5ft Tuffmac trailer with galvanised mesh sides and a distinctive swing door at the rear was taken from outside a house at Belclare, Tuam.

Gardaí in Tuam are asking anyone who may have seen any person acting suspiciously in the Belclare area on Thursday night/Friday morning, anyone with any information about the movements of this trailer or anyone who may have been offered this Tuffmac

Criminal damage at Maunsells Road

Sometime between Friday September 3 and Monday September 6, extensive damage was caused to the driver’s side of a black Renault Clio while it was parked along Maunsells Road.

Gardaí are asking anyone who may have witnessed this damage being caused or anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area between those dates to contact Galway Garda Station on 091-538000.

Appeal for witnesses to Maunsells Road cycling incident

On Tuesday September 7, at around 8.30am a young male was cycling to school on his bike along Maunsells Road when it is alleged a car driving dangerously caused the cyclist to be knocked from his bike resulting in injuries.

Gardaí in Galway are anxious to speak with the driver of this vehicle and are asking anyone who may have been in the Maunsells Road area around that time and may have seen this vehicle driving dangerously to come forward.

Clifden RNLI assist six stranded on broken down vessel

Just after 18.00 on Tuesday 14 September both Clifden lifeboats; Shannon Class ALB and Atlantic 85 launched in response to reports of a broken down boat — A 14ft vessel with multiple people on board which had suffered engine failure a few kilometres from shore in Ballyconneely Bay.

The volunteer crews arrived on scene at 18.53, having assessed the situation and ensured the six passengers were safe and well, the crew commenced a tow operation. The casualty vessel was towed alongside the Atlantic 85 Inshore Lifeboat and brought to Ballyconneely Beach. The lifeboats were back in station by 20.10.

Clifden RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager John Brittain has commended the volunteer crew for a timely response and successful outcome, but said that people should take all necessary precautions when going to sea.

“Plan your route in advance, carry out regular checks on your vessel prior to, and during your journey. Have means of calling for assistance if you find yourself in trouble and everyone on board should always be wearing life jackets,” he said.
