Another busy weekend looms in national underage leagues

Galway United U17s are in Mark Farren Cup quarter-final action

Saturday’s Mark Farren Cup quarter-final away to Athlone Town will be a revealing encounter for Martin Devlin’s Galway United U17 outfit.

The in-form David Tarmey and Ryan Nolan scored in a 2-2 Shield draw with Cobh Ramblers at the weekend so Devlin’s side will be anxious to deliver another gritty display in the midlands.

At U15 level, Anthony O’Neill’s charges host Shelbourne at Eamonn Deacy Park on Sunday afternoon. Dara Kavanagh and Brian Cunningham, brother of first team player Padraic, were on target in the recent 3-2 loss against Finn Harps.

Xavi Vazquez’s U14s enjoyed a hugely encouraging 3-2 away triumph over a highly regarded Bohemians with Kyle Fitzgerald, Eoin Hannon, and Billy Regan contributing goals.

Ben Molloy scored for Brendan O’Connor’s U19s, who were defeated by St Patrick’s Athletic in the capital and another tough assignment beckons in Maree on Sunday with Shamrock Rovers the visitors.

Galway WFC U19s continue to impress, earning a fine 2-0 away success over Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds. The prolific Anna Fahey and Saoirse Healey struck goals for Phil Trill’s team, who entertain Athlone at Dangan on Sunday.

Despite a brave fightback Galway WFC U17s lost 3-2 to Donegal with Ciara Coen and Kate Thompson on target. Next on the agenda is a trip on Saturday to Limerick for a game with Treaty United.
