Underage action round-up

It was a busy weekend of action

Abbie Callanan struck a hat-trick as Phil Trill's Galway WFC U19s came from behind to defeat Athlone Town in a cup fixture at Dangan on Sunday.

Callanan, one of several U19s to have featured at first team level already in 2021, impressed as Galway advanced. Emily Corbett guided the visitors in front, but Callanan equalised before the promising Aoibheann Costello scored.

Two further efforts from Callanan ensured Galway advanced to the quarter-finals.

On Saturday evening Galway WFC U17s suffered a disappointing 3-2 loss away to Donegal. A dynamic start from Donegal was rewarded with three goals before Galway responded.

Isabelle Fitzpatrick netted her seventh of the campaign, while Eabha O'Riordan also scored for Galway, who could not summon an equaliser. Galway host Sligo Rovers at Dangan on Saturday afternoon.

Charlie Concannon was on target as Galway United U19s drew 1-1 with Waterford on Sunday. Brendan O'Connor's team battled to secure a share of the spoils and face Cork City this weekend.

Martin Devlin's United U17s have a Mark Farren Cup clash against Bohemians at East United on Saturday afternoon.

United's U15s edged out Dundalk courtesy of a Colm Whelan penalty in the second half. Anthony O'Neill's charges are away to Athlone Town at Lissywollen on Sunday afternoon.
