Galway Pride Week 2021 to be launched outside the Pálás

City’s 32nd Pride festival will run from Monday August 9 to Sunday 15

Galway Community Pride will mark its 32nd year this month with a series of online, outdoor, and in person events to celebrate the LGBT+ community in the city and county.

Galway Pride Week 2021, which runs from Monday August 9 to Sunday 15, will be launched tomorrow, Friday July 30, at 6pm, on the outdoor terrace of the Pálás Cinema.

In-person numbers will be limited due to current restrictions. The speakers will be Green Party Galway City Central councillor, and Deputy Mayor of Galway, Martina O'Connor; James O'Hagan of LGBT Ireland; and Cameron Keighron, chairperson of AMACH LGBT.

Galway Pride will begin on Monday August 9 with the rainbow flag raising in Eyre Square, with a launch event taking place later that evening.

Other events include the remembrance Vigil (Wednesday 9pm, Eyre Square ) and the Queer Women's Night (Thursday 7pm, Bierhaus ) with a range of online panels discussing reproductive justice, disability within the LGBT+ community, race and racism, mental health, and sex during a pandemic.

While there will be no parade this year owing to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be a Pride day out in Salthill, including a Pride swim at Blackrock and a community gathering in Salthill Park. Fr Burke Park will also host a BTQAI tea party.

Pride will also host a number of in person events (which will be guideline compliant and socially distanced ), such as the ‘This Legislation is S***e’ event, a collaboration with Galway Pro Choice, involving “non stop dancing” and to highlight “the need for better, more inclusive reform of reproductive justice”.

Galway’s favourite night out, The Dirty Circus, will take place on Saturday 14. Expect burlesque, comedy, music, pole, drag, and more.
