40 new jobs are to be created as part of €1.9m expansion of Cambus Medical

Gaeltacht medical device company plans to grow to more than 170 employees by the end of 2021

More than 40 new highly skilled jobs are to be created as part of a €1.9m expansion work being carried out by Cambus Medical, in An Spidéal.

The Gaeltacht medical device company plans to grow to more than 170 employees by the end of 2021. The new positions will be in the specialised fields of engineering, quality, manufacturing, customer operations and administration.

Funding for the project was approved by the board of Údarás na Gaeltachta as part of the Government’s Covid-19 jobs stimulus package. The refurbishment will provide Cambus Medical/Freudenberg Medical with the opportunity to overcome previous capacity limitations and explore business opportunities securing new customers.

Welcoming the announcement, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin, said: “I would like to congratulate Cambus Medical and its entire staff on the news of their significant job creation and expansion as the company continues to provide valuable sustainable employment in the An Spidéal area. The Cois Fharraige area has seen the announcement of up to 200 jobs in the medical device sector over the past few months, which is proof of what can be achieved on the west coast of Ireland with targeted state support.”

Anna Ní Ghallachair, chairperson of the Board of Údarás na Gaeltachta, is delighted with the positive news for Connemara. “On behalf of the board of Údarás na Gaeltachta, I wish to congratulate Cambus Medical/Freudenberg Medical and its team on this expansion and the creation of 40 new jobs. This innovative company, established by two local entrepreneurs with the support of Údarás na Gaeltachta, employs many people in the area and continues to contribute greatly to the local economy.”
