Significant new signing for Connacht

In one of the biggest overseas signings in several years, Connacht Rugby have boosted their squad for next season with the signing of Australian Super Rugby star Mack Hansen.

The Sydney-born fullback currently plays with the Brumbies in the Super Rugby competition, and is comfortable on the wing or outhalf, where he played as a school boy.

Hansen, who grew up in Canberra, is Irish qualified through his mother who hails from Cork, first joined the Brumbies on a development contract in 2018 after a successful schoolboy career where he led the ACT Schoolboys through the National Championships and represented the Australian Schools.

He made his first Super Rugby debut against the Warratahs in 2019m and according to the Brumbies, Hansen, now 23, is "an elusive and slippery runner" who made "14 tackle busts from 19 runs in 2020". In addition he is a known goal kicker, who has proved cool under pressure.

His grandfather Kevin was a well known rugby league player who played a test for the Kangaroos in 1947.
