65 Roses remembrance walk challenge for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland

On Sunday February 28 Mary Booth from Clarinbridge started her 165km walk for CF Ireland in memory of her husband’s niece Laura Booth, Kinclare, Caltra who died in 1998 from cystic fibrosis. For the last seven years Mary and Malachy have hosted a Tea Party in their home for different charities.

However due to Covid 19 it was not possible this year so Mary took on the 165km walking challenge to raise much needed funds for CF Ireland. Her initial target was €500. However due to the amazing generosity of people, the amount now stands at €7,430. Neighbours, friends and family accompanied her on her daily walks finishing on March 29 which was the anniversary of Laura’s death. On that day 65 ballons, which were kindly sponsored by Jonathan Corbett of Londis, Newcastle Rd., were released in Clarinbridge to commemorate Laura and all those who have died of this serious illness.

John Conneely, photographer, from Craughwell, is a good friend of the cystic fibrosis community in Galway and very kindly took the photograph here. Tomorrow, Friday April 9 is 65 Roses Day which is the National Fundraising Day for CF Ireland. The funds from this day and Mary’s Rembrance Walk go to providing essential services to those living with the disease.

She wishes to acknowledge the generosity of all those who have contributed so far as well as those who took on the challenge to accompany her on her daily walks. It woud have been impossible to raise such an amount without their support.
