McDonnell calls for five year plan for older areas of the city

Various improvement works being carried out in Mervue and Monivea Park areas of the city

A five-year plan must be drawn up for improvement and upgrading works on footpaths, roads and drainage in Mervue, Shantalla, Bohermore, and Claddagh.

This is the view of Independent Galway City East councillor, Declan McDonnell, who said City Hall must prepare such a plan for the older areas of the city.

He was speaking following improvement works benign carried out in McBride Avenue in Mervue. It follows similar improvements in McHugh Avenue, and Malin Avenue last year. “Some of the footpaths in Mervue are 70 years old and were badly in need of improvements, which are very welcome,” he said.

Cllr McDonnell had secured the allocation of €30,000 in the City Council 2020 budget for the work to be carried out.

Meanwhile, work is ongoing on measures to improve water pressure for homes in the Monivea Park area. He expressed thanks to Liz Fanning, senior executive engineer with the Galway City Council, for working with him to have the project undertaken.
