Galway WFC draw with Athlone Town

Billy Clery’s Galway WFC played out a 4-4 pre-season draw with Athlone Town on Wednesday evening.

In blustery conditions Galway, who defeated the same opposition on Saturday, enjoyed a productive start.

Kate Slevin and Chloe Singleton netted goals for Galway before Athlone responded narrowing the deficit.

Talented teenager Slevin drilled her second of the contest, while Elle O’Flaherty added to Galway’s advantage.

A spirited Athlone Town outfit struck three goals in the closing stages to restore parity as both clubs continue to prepare for the upcoming campaign.

Galway WFC face Shelbourne in Bealnamulla on Saturday, while Peamount United visit Eamonn Deacy Park on St Patrick’s Day in further friendly fixtures.

The FAI has also confirmed that Galway WFC’s opening WNL encounter against Cork City on March 27 will kick off at 4pm.
