Complete a course during lockdown — Galway Rural Development offers support to county dwellers

As we enter another month of lockdown, you could take this opportunity to do some online courses — all in the comfort of your own home.

Galway Rural Development (GRD ) provides support to people living in the county of Galway. It continues to help people upskill online, by running a range of short courses designed to give you the additional qualifications you will need in the job market. Courses include manual handling, fire safety, driver theory, HACCP, and CV skills. Galway Rural Development also has a limited number of individual grants that people can apply for which would go towards the cost of a specific and relevant training course to help people back into employment.

If you have been out of work for a while during this pandemic, then GRD's personal development courses and resilience workshops might be just the thing you need to get you motivated and confident again.

If you are new to web based courses, GRD staff can help. They offer an initial training session on how to access online platforms such as Zoom, and a GRD officer is available to support attendees with any technical issues they may have.

Community groups which are unable to run their normal centre based activities might also like to take advantage of some training at this time. GRD has a number of digital e-learning courses available that can be done in a few hours and in your own time. This includes Covid-19 induction training which can get you prepared to re-open your doors in a safe and compliant manner.

People who have taken up the online challenge have been pleasantly surprised.

“I think it was an advantage to me to do online, hadn’t to think about childcare, didn’t have to travel, could still ask questions and privately if you wished," one user commented, while another said: “Very rewarding, it also gave me a feel for online training going forward and to know I can do this kind of training.”
