Annaghdown track and astro project awarded €150,000

Annaghdown Community Development Committee have announced the successful awarding of €150,000 by Galway Rural Development through their Leader programme for the building of a new walking track and new astro turf facility at Gortscully in Annaghdown.

The funding awarded will allow for further development of the project to take place and ensure it is developed to a high standard when they commence works. This investment is more important than ever to help address the challenges arising from the COVID-19 crisis and provide much needed facilities for the community of Annaghdown and help drive economic recovery and a sustainable development in a rural area.

Further fundraising needs to happen to complete the project and the committee appeal to the people of Annaghdown and local business to get behind them to help raise the final 15% of the money required.

If you are in a position to donate €5, €500, or €5000, contact them at 087 7976254. They would really appreciate your contribution so they can build this amazing new facility.

Due to the Covid pandemic it is very difficult to host fundraisers, so the development committee ask to keep them in mind if you are in a position to offer financial assistance.

“The quicker we raise the final amount of money the quicker we will have a lit walking track to walk in a safe environment for young and old and listen to the sound of kids training under floodlights on those long winter nights at Gortscully, Annaghdown,” a committee member said.
