Annual artworks auction for dog rescue charity goes online

Madra is facing unprecedented bills

Works by some of Ireland’s top artists including Finbar McHugh, Padraig McCaul, Valencia island artist Charles Harper and Galway artist Grace Cunningham will go under the hammer at the annual Madra Dog Rescue Charity Art Auction.

This year's event will be online due to Covid restrictions, and it is open for registration and online bids on Thursday December 3. It will remain available to view and bid online until Monday December 7.

The link will be on Madra’s website madra.ie and across all its social media platforms.

This year's goal is to raise €3,000 to contribute towards vet bills for the Connemara-based dog rescue and adoption charity.,

The charity is facing unprecedented bills as its two-income-generating charity shops have been closed for months due to the pandemic.

Madra co-founder and director, Marina Fiddler, says the auction includes stunning artworks with an amazing variety of subjects and styles.

“We are honoured so many talented artists have donated such beautiful pieces to support the homeless dogs in our care.

“We have amazing support from dog lovers throughout the year, but the annual charity art auction is a way for us to reach out to a wider audience, who receive something unique in return.“

Fiddler says the auction is a vital fundraiser for Madra, and it is wonderful to see some of Ireland’s best artists using their talent to help.

“It is a wonderful opportunity to purchase incredible artwork from artists of such national and international renown – and all for a good cause.“

Prices range from €40 to €500, so, she says, 'there is something for everyone, and it makes such a special Christmas gift".

The list of talented artists includes Pádraig McCaul, Grace Cunningham, Finbar McHugh,David Lee, Mark O’Neill, Rachel Dubber, Jason O’Ceannobháin, Joe O’Shaughnessy, Vanda Luddy, Sylvia Parkinson-Brown, Michael Tierney, Patricia Kavanagh, and Shirley Hope Sweeney.
