A darkly humorous look at surviving 2020

Kevin Higgins new book, The Colour Yellow & The Number 19, will be launched next month

COME THE end of the year, the question will not be, "How was 2020 for you?", but rather "How did you get through 2020?" In his new book, Galway poet Kevin Higgins will provide his answer.

The Colour Yellow & The Number 19: Negative Thoughts That Helped One Man Mostly Retain His Sanity During 2020, features poetry and prose and finds Kevin taking a darkly humorous approach to finding himself designated one of the 'vulnerable' during the Covid pandemic.

As well as his thoughts on enduring the lockdown and restrictions, Kevin also comments, in unrestrained fashion, on world affairs and Irish politics. The book cover was designed by Swedish artist Gunilla Anderson, who has made jewellery featuring lines from Kevin’s poems.

The book is published by Nuascealta and will be officially launched on Friday December 4 at 6.30pm via a Zoom event by somatic therapist Aisling Richmond and writer and critic Tomás Mac Siomóin. The MC will be poet Rachel Coventry.

The event will also feature a special event, Poems for #IStandWithJeremyCorbyn, as an act of solidarity against what Kevin Higgins has called "a witch-hunt" in the British Labour party against supporters of Palestinian rights. Among those reading will be Kevin Higgins, Janet Silver, Ruth Aylett, Kate Ennals, Dave Lordan, Quincy Lehr, and Susan Millar DuMars.
