Galway Science and Technology Festival will hold a special opening event on Sunday 8th November on their YouTube Channel. Fun and innovative events for all the family include ‘The Science of Dance’ where you can learn to dance to improve your brain health. Learn how to juggle in ‘Science of the Circus’ with James Soper.

Join Scientific Sue for ‘Mysterious Microbes’ who will teach you how to prevent microbial infections and which song to sing when washing your hands. Join in and dress like a Superhero!

Anne Murray, Festival Manager encourages everyone to get involved during the two weeks of the Festival. She said, 'It is fantastic to see the response of the companies and our science communicators to the current restrictions and their commitment and dedication has allowed us to transform this Festival to a virtual event for families to enjoy at home, we encourage people to explore their local beaches and forests and learn about the world around us.'

A STEM related workshop will arrive to all 226 primary schools in Galway city and county during the Festival. Galway Atlantaquaria recently commissioned five short videos and these will be available to all schools for the duration of the Festival, featuring favourites including your favourite Bug Doctor talking about spiders and snakes.

Secondary school workshops include the ‘Secrets of Superhero Science’. Superheroes in the Marvel and DC films are capable of extraordinary superhuman feats, But how likely is it that we’ll be able to replicate these superpowers in the future? Whizzkids present Learning to Code there will be astronomy by Killaloe Exploration Dome and the Science of the Circus with James Soper.

From now through Friday 13 November enter the ‘Art and Essay Competition’ and submit an essay or picture featuring ‘My Superhero’ to be in with a chance of winning a €100 voucher.

The Festival runs from 8-22 of November culminating in a ‘Virtual Show’ on the 22nd featuring special guests including a talk on the ‘Secret Science of Santa’. Santa is more than ready for COVID-19, find out ways that you can help him on the big night. There will be other workshops including a morning of marine-based activities by the Marine Institute.
