Gardai probe attacks on vehicles

Gardai in the city investigatie several incidents of criminal damage to vehicles over the last week

At 11:20pm on Friday October 16, damage was caused to a vehicle that was parked at Henry Street, Galway City. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or may have any information in relation to this incident is asked to please contact Garda Aiden Mc Tigue at Galway Garda Station at 091 538000.

In a separate incident, at 1:50pm on Wednesday October 14 damage was caused to the windscreen of an ambulance as it drove along the old Dublin Road, Galway City.

Halloween night is on Saturday October 31 2020. Fireworks are illegal and any persons found in possession of them or attempting to sell them may be prosecuted. Gardai are appealing to the public to be mindful of the dangers of fireworks and in particular the distress they can cause to of older people and animals.

Gardaí are advising members of the Public to observe the Government & HSE Guidelines in relation to Social Distancing. "Everybody needs to make a conscious effort to reduce the spread of the virus and not to be complacent whilst restrictions are in place," a garda spkesperson said.

Under level 5 restrictions all members of the public are asked to remain within 5km of their home with the exception of medical appointments, essential shopping, travelling to/from work and caring for older persons or children.

Community Gardaí are on hand to assist older and vulnerable persons who are cocooning and finding it difficult to get out in the current climate. "We are assisting with shopping and prescriptions collections and are happy to assist the any members of the community in whatever way we can," said the spokes person.
