NUI Galway Students’ Union launch charity challenge

Galway Autism Partnership, Galway Rape Crisis Centre, and Helplink Mental Health are the chosen charities for 2020-21

Galway Autism Partnership, Galway Rape Crisis Centre, and Helplink Mental Health are set to benefit from the NUI Galway Students’ Union today annual charity challenge, which runs from November to April.

The first challenge in November will be the Kilometre Challenge where participants commit to completing a target number of kilometres by walking, running or on wheels. December will be a Random Act of Kindness Challenge with each challenger picking a target number of acts to complete.

The resulting money raised will be divided between the three chosen charities. According to Cathy Connolly, executive director of the Galway Rape Crisis Centre, the funds will go towards "offering counselling to crisis clients during the changed landscape of Covid-19, by providing a combination of online and face to face support".

A spokesperson for Galway Autism Partnership’s Spokesperson said the funding "will directly support the autistic children and adults of Galway city and county". Helplink Mental Health's CEO Lochlann Scott said the caret was delighted to have been selected by the NUIG SU: "We look forward to strengthening our ties with the NUIG community."
