No stopping Sarsfields' women

All Ireland champions Sarsfields have retained their Galway crown to become the 2020 Galway Senior Camogie champions.

The title holders saw off Ardrahan, who delivered a strong second half performance, to push Michael McGrath's team all the way in this 1-10 to 1-07 win.

Cora Kenny scored the all important first-half goal to help Sarsfields into a 1-7 to 1-0 half-time lead, withSiobhan McGrath (0-3 ), Orla McGrath (0-2 ) and Niamh McGrath (0-2 ) adding the points.

Although Rebecca Hennelly was the only Ardrahan’s scorer in that opening half with a goal from a sideline cut, they produced a stirring second half.

Points from Denise Diviney, Ava Lynskey and Hennelly (0-5 ) narrowed the gap to two points at one stage, but Sarah Spellman, Siobhan McGrath and Niamh McGrath put the game beyond reach, ensuring the champions retained their title - their fourth since 2016.

Sports takes another hit

Since then the Camogie Association’s Ard Chomhairle has endorsed the decision to suspend all camogie club games at all levels with immediate effect.

Training will continue to be permitted as per the guidelines outlined.

And the Ladies Gaelic Football Association akso has suspended all LGFA Club games at all levels until further notice, which it says has been taken in the interest of public safety following "a number of incidents" that have been brought to its attention in recent days.

The association says post-match celebrations and a lack of social distancing at certain events have proved "disappointing and problematic".

The directive applies to all ages and all grades across the island, and also applies to all challenge games at club level, while club social centres/bars are also to close.

As a result the provincial club championship fixtures which had been scheduled for the coming weekend are postponed until further notice. These include Kilkerrin Clonberne's final with St Nathy's of Sligo and Naomh Mhuire's fixture with Eoghan Rua, also of Sligo, in the senior and junior club finals.

The Camogie Association’s Ard Chomhairle has also endorsed a decision to suspend all camogie club games at all levels with immediate effect.

Training will continue to be permitted as per the guidelines outlined.
