Fantasy Football round two preview

Round one of the Premier League is done and dusted and we got good value from our eight games with 23 goals scored. There were no shocks on the opening weekend as Fulham and West Brom fell to 3-0 defeats to Arsenal and Leicester City respectively with Chelsea securing three points away to Brighton.

However, despite a predicted defeat to champions Liverpool at Anfield, Leeds United are the story of the round as Marco Bielsa's men pushed Jürgen Klopp's charges to the limit during a 4-3 classic.

But with round one in the can, let's look at the top three of the Advertiser Tribal League.

Top three

Nuno Neves - Tempranillo FC - 109

A relation to Wolves' midfield dynamo Rúben Neves, who knows but what I do know is that Nuno Neves had a cracker of an opening round, scoring 109 points. Captain Mohamed Salah was the stand out performer securing 40 points for his manager but the exceptional Egyptian was ably assisted by Jamie Vardy (13 ), Lucas Digne (12 ), and Jorginho (12 ). Throw in goals from Wilfred Zaha (8 ), Raúl Jiménez (8 ), and Virgil Van Dijk (7 ) and you are going to have a big score on your hands. However, where Tempranillo FC will need to improve is at the back; seven goals conceded at the weekend by three players is not good enough and any more leaks in the defence will see them slide down the table.

Paul Madden - MaddFC - 107

It is said there is a fine line between madness and genius and Paul Madden seems to walking on the latter side at present. A score of 107 points is a result with which any Fantasy manager would be happy. But when you take into consideration two of his players drew blanks, Madden must wonder what the score may have been if he had a full complement of players take to the pitch. A triple captaining of Mohamed Salah gave the midfielder a score of 60 points and with Callum Wilson (8 ), Raúl Jiménez (8 ), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (7 ), Virgil Van Dijk (7 ), and Bernd Leno (7 ) all producing decent scores, MaddFC will not be crazy for dreaming of what might be come May time.

Sean Feeney - Scaoil isteach í - 105

When the totals were tallied last night, it is clear what manager Sean Feeney was thinking; get in there. Yes it was a hugely impressive score in the Tribal League. Again, Mohamed Salah was captain of Scaoil isteach í with defenders Romain Saïss (15 ), Reece James (14 ), and Virgil Van Dijk (7 ) all getting their names on the scoresheet. While it was a pleasing round for Feeney, he will no doubt be disappointed with his midfield trio of Kai Havertz, Heung-Min Son, and Delle Alli failing to fire.

Top picks

The great thing about football is that there always seems to be another game around the corner where Fantasy managers can right the wrongs of the previous week. Who are the players to get the job done in round two?

Willian (£8.1 million - Arsenal ) v West Ham

The Brazilian got off to a wonderful start to life at The Gunners by providing all three assists to Arsenal's goals at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon. This weekend, Arsenal welcome West Ham to The Emirates for the night kick-off. David Moyes' men were rubbish- and that is putting it kindly - during the 2-0 loss to Newcastle at the Olympic Stadium. I don't see The Hammers being able to raise their game to the required level to defeat their opponents. I'm going for an Arsenal win and Willian to get on the scoresheet.

Patrick Bamford (£5.6 million - Leeds United ) v Fulham

Leeds thrilled us in their return to English football's top table as they took Liverpool to the brink during the opening match of the campaign. One man who performed well for The Whites was striker Patrick Bamford who found the back of the net at Anfield following a mistake from Virgil Van Dijk. On Saturday afternoon, Leeds welcome fellow new boys Fulham to Elland Road. Fulham's major problem the last time they played at this level was that they could not defend - hence why they got relegated. However, The Cottagers have failed to remedy that problem and look likely to concede another bagful this season if Saturday's performance against Arsenal is anything to go by. Bamford and Leeds will have a field day against Fulham and will score goals. Get him in your team.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7 million - Everton ) v West Brom

If ever there was a player who loves playing under a manager, it is Everton's striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin playing under Carlo Ancelotti. Before the Italian's appointment last season, Calvert-Lewin had scored a modest five goals in 16 games. Enter Ancelotti and Everton's number nine found the back of the net eight times in 11 outings. And Calvert-Lewin continued last season's form into the new term, scoring a bullet header against Spurs for The Toffees as they took home all three points from north London. At Saturday lunchtime, Everton welcome newly promoted West Brom to Goodison Park. The Baggies suffered like Fulham in the opening round as they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat against Leicester City. Slaven Bilic's men were poor and did not pose a threat in attack or look particularly solid at the back. Everton will win and Calvert-Lewin will grab himself a brace.
