Water pipes installation ruined Mervue green area says O’Flaherty

The way the green area between Parnell Avenue and Tone Avenue Mervue has been left, following the installation of the new water pipes, is “nothing short of a disgrace”.

This is the view of Independent councillor Terry O’Flaherty who said the contractors “should not have been allowed” to leave the area in “an appalling state”, filled with rocks and stones.

“It looks very unsightly,” said Cllr O’Flaherty. “The grass cutting could not be completed as a result of the works carried out there.”

Cllr O’Flaherty said the Galway City Council should not have allowed the contractors to have left the area until they had “cleared out all of the rubble”. She said when the new contractors are appointed to replace the old lead pipes, they must reinstate the greens and resurface the roads and footpaths “in a proper manner before they complete the works and leave the area
