Gardai probe theft of fox hound puppies

Gardaí in Craughwell are appealing for information following the theft of four fox hound puppies in Craughwell between 7pm on Sunday June 21, and 9am on Monday June 22, 2020.

The litter of puppies are just four weeks old and are described as black, white and tan in colour. There were three male puppies and one female pup in the litter.

The puppies were taken from their mother before they could be weaned properly, and this is of concern.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have been offered pups matching this description or who may have information in relation to the theft to make contact with them at Craughwell GardaStation on 091-876320 or Loughrea Garda Station 091-842870.

Van set on fire in Mervue

Gardai are investigating an incident in which a van was set alight in Mervue last week.

On Tuesday June 16 between 11.15pm and 11.20pm a 07 D White Peugeot boxer van was found on fire at Monivea Road, Mervue.

The property adjacent to the van was damaged due to the fire.

Anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the area around this time or anyone who may have any other information is asked to contact Galway Garda Station on 091-538000.

JPC holds moment’s silence for Colm Horkan

Members of Galway city’s JPC meeting held a moment’s silence for the passing of Detective Garda Colm Horkan on Monday.

Detective Garda Horkan who was shot several times in Castlerea in County Roscommon last week, was laid to rest on Sunday in his home town of Charlestown in County Mayo.

Chairperson of the committee, Cllr Níall McNelis, said the crowds who attended Garda stations throughout the county showed the respect the public have for the gardai and thanked the gardai’s efforts through the trying circumstances of the past three months.

Burglaries in Oranmore

Gardai are probing two burglaries which took place in Oranmore last week.

Between 6pm on Tuesday June 16 and 3am on Wednesday 17 a burglary occurred at a business premises in Cloonarkin Drive, Oranmore.

Entry was gained via an unsecured window.

On Thursday June 18 between 2am and 8am a house was broken into at Bluebell Woods, Oranmore.

Entry was gained via a window and a handbag, wallet, jewellery, and cash were taken.

Separately on Thursday June 18 between 3.30am and 10.30am a male attempted to gain entry to a house at Bluebell Woods Oranmore.

The male searched the surrounding area for a spare key and was accompanied by a second person.

Anyone who may have noticed any suspicious persons or vehicles in the area around these times is asked to contact Oranmore Garda Station on 091-388030.
