Olivia O’Reilly of Galway Cat Rescue and animal shelters is grinning like a Cheshire cat this week with the news that Petmainia Ireland has, with the kind support of its customers donated, essential supplies and food along with donations to the sum of €165 to support the animal charity.
Petmania Galway launched a food appeal to help Galway Cat Rescue and its eight struggling rescue partners in April. With the restrictions of lockdown rescue centres face financial hardship as a result of the Pandemic. While costs continue to mount up, many of the shelters’ flag days, fundraisers and adoption days have been cancelled.
livia O’Reilly, from Galway Cat Rescue said that during the lockdown they had no way to carry out home-check for foster home and all adoptions were suspended as were many of our fundraising activities.
“We were able to continue our food drops to cocooning elderly cat carers in the area with the support of Petmania Galway and we are so grateful today to receive this generous donation with thanks to their staff and customers,” she said.
In a spate of good fortune this week, Galway Cat Rescue has also been awarded the Movement for Good Award by Ecclesiastical Insurance. The award is given to charities to help them continue their good work and make a positive difference. The charity also successfully qualified for a Covid Relief grant of £3,000 from Battersea Cat and Dog Home via the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH ).
Galway Cat Rescue are currently caring for a large number of kittens, which they expect to be ready to rehome in five to six weeks.
