Galway businesses to benefit from €14 million boost to Trading Online Voucher Scheme

Gaeltacht companies approved for funding totalling €600,000

Galway businesses are set to benefit from the €14.2 million boost to the Trading Online Voucher Scheme operated by the Local Enterprise Offices and Údarás na Gaeltachta.

Under the Scheme, small businesses can secure €5,000 in two grants of €2,500 each, to develop or enhance their online business. It provides direct financial support to enable businesses to set up websites; develop e-commerce capability, including booking systems or online payment facilities; develop apps and other mobile-friendly solutions; as well as invest in online marketing and advertising.

'The Trading Online Voucher Schemehas become essential for many SMEs in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic' - Sen Sean Kyne

New changes to the scheme mean 90 per cent of the costs are covered, up from 50 per cent. The extra funding was achieved through joint efforts by Ministers Heather Humphrey and Richard Bruton.

Acting Minister for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht, and the Islands, Fine Gael Senator Seán Kyne, has welcomed the improvements to the scheme. "It has become essential for many SMEs operating their business in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic," he said.

Sen Kyne has also been able to approve funding from the Department of Culture, Heritage and Gaeltacht, in conjunction with the Department of Communications, of €600,000 to Údarás na Gaeltachta to administer the scheme in Gaeltacht communities.
