The Cartoon Thieves - at last an EP

Popular Galway band from the Noughties issue four-track release

DURING THE mid to late Noughties, The Cartoon Thieves were one of the most popular of Galway bands, and many will have fond memories from the packed to capacity gigs they used to play in the Róisín Dubh.

Despite their popularity the band never released anything officially - until now. An EP of four original songs, entitled Unheard Of, has been issued via rodneyowl.bandcamp.com and can be purchased for €5.

It is credited to Rodney Owl & The Cartoon Thieves. This is because Mark McConville, who is now a solo singer-songwriter going by the stage name Rodney Owl, was a founder member of the band and one of its main songwriters. The four tracks on the EP were written by him.

"These originals were all written by me," he said. "The songs were recorded between 2006-08 and were originally earmarked to appear on a debut album, which subsequently never happened."
