Covid-19 Community Champion appointed for Galway city

A Community Champion for Galway city has been appointed as part of the Government’s Covid-19 Community Outreach programme in association with The Wheel and Irish Rural Link.

Brendan Mulry who works as a programme coordinator with EQUAL Ireland, will work with Galway city community organisations, local agencies, and the city council to help streamline the community response and make sure nobody gets left behind during these unprecedented times.

Mr Mulry said; “We have never before faced a challenge of this size. The aim of this outreach programme is to make sure that vulnerable people, those with long-term medical conditions, and people with additional needs have access to the highest quality information and support.

“We are urging people who may not have a family member living nearby or a neighbour they can call on, to get in touch with us by phone or email as soon as possible. Or if you wish to help the community effort or already in a group, however informal, we would love to hear from you.”

This community outreach programme mobilises a network of community champions across the 26 counties.

Champions in each county have strong existing links within their local areas, experience dealing with community organisations, and are already in contact with the people that the programme ultimately seeks to support.

Members of the public can reach Mr Mulry by emailing him at [email protected] or by phoning 087-2194243.
