The Comedy KARLnival goes online

The lockdown can't stop the comedy from coming to a laptop or phone near you

THE CORONAVIRUS may have stopped us from going out to see a comedy show, but it cannot stop stand-up comedy coming straight to us.

In order to continue the comedy, to keep spirits up, and to give us all a laugh, the Róisín Dubh's Comedy KARLnival is going online for the period of the lockdown and the restrictions. The first instalment is tomorrow [Tuesday March 31] at 9pm via https://www.facebook.com/roisindubhcomedy.

The headliner is Tom O'Mahony, who the late, great, Rik Mayall, described as a "psychotically funny bastard". Tom is best known for his roles as Tarquin the toff on Damo & Ivor and as oddball neighbour Paddy d'Pervert in Bridget & Eamon. He has supported Tom Green, Tom Stade, Nina Conti, Michael Winslow, Neil Delamare, and Tommy Tiernan.

And also playing...

Support is from Bob Hennigan, once described as “Mayo’s most charming ball of misery”, and declared as "the most criminally underrated comedian in the country” by The Irish Times. He is the resident MC of the highly-acclaimed Ireland’s Smallest Comedy Club, and is a winner of the Tedfest Toilet Duck Award and 2015 Galway Comedy Award.

Also playing are Brian Gallagher, a contributor to the hugely successful YouTube channel 'Facts'. He has performed at the Vodafone Comedy Carnival, Forbidden Fruit, and the Edinburgh Fringe; Ballinasloe's Breda Larkin - Ireland's only queer rural comic. She has supported Karl Spain, PJ Gallagher, and The Lords Of Strut; as well as Amy Walsh and Ian Burke.

The MC is Karl Spain. All you have to do is grab yourself a drink, get comfortable, and tune into the Róisín Dubh Comedy's Facebook page at 9pm.
