Loughrea public water supply is safe for consumption says Irish Water

Irish Water is assuring customers supplied by the Loughrea Public Water Supply that its water supply is fully compliant with all drinking water regulations.

According to Irish Water, all of its sampling results indicate that chlorine levels in the network are high and the ultra violet system at the treatment plant is fully functioning.

A spokesperson for Irish Water said; "Irish Water carries out regular testing and monitoring of all public water supplies in Ireland in accordance with EU legislation. When a drinking water exceedance occurs, Irish Water carries out an assessment and where necessary, consults with the Health Service Executive [HSE] to seek their advice in the interest of protecting public health. Where required, Irish Water also notifies the Environmental Protection Agency [EPA].

"We are aware of concerns in one housing estate in Loughrea and carried out tests in the area 10 days ago which have all returned compliant. We carried out further tests yesterday and will liaise with the HSE once we receive the results of these."
